I hope the people of Massapequa wake up and speak up soon and they vote OUT the next school budget.My property taxes(75% are school taxes)have more than Doubled in 5 1/2 years. Moved in 2004 property taxes $11,400..today they are OVER $22,000 ($16,400 school tax)...by the way I have NEVER used the school system. We have way TOO many HIGH paid teachers & administrators making well Over $ 100,000 + 25% benefits. Who can keep paying these insane taxes? I'll be using this GREAT website to put together the FACTS and distribute all over Massapequa BEFORE the May school budget vote...Enough is Enough!! What say YOU?

The increase is only 2.5% this year. If you don't have children (or use private schools) why do you live somewhere that is known for it's schools? My friend who does not have children chooses not to vote since they do not think it is fair to the families with children. Maybe the school staff is generouly paid but the schools are very good and the children are succeeding.

Let's be honest the schools are by no means great, especially considering what these teachers are paid. Furthermore Massapequa HS is becoming known as 'Heroin High' across Long Island. This is truly embarrassing. I grew up in this town and I can say foe sure that there is less and less to be proud of. Taxes are outrageous, and what do we really get? What I really resent is the School board trying to frame the budget debate in a binary way: if the budget gets cut so do the services. How about cutting salaries, starting with the overpaid superintendents? What a disgrace!

What do the teachers raises and pension have to do with the children succeeding? In simplistic terms, jenrock, and I mean, simplistic, teacehrs raises, time off, paid health care and other fringes should have nothing to do with children achieving academic success. Now, I gather from your post, that if the teachers do not get what they want, they will lower their teaching standards or, even more appetizing, will they quit! Hahaha, I would hope so, because for every tenured teacher their is one waiting in line for a job!
